Intergenerational Baking and Handicraft Programme Gives Seniors and Youths with Special Needs a Chance to Contribute (Lianhe Zaobao, 24 Nov 2025)
Presbyterian Community Social Services (PCS) and Connexions Integrated Learning Hub have launched the Intergenerational Baking and Handicraft Programme, aimed at fostering an inclusive society and creating sustainable micro-job opportunities.
The Christmas cookies launched for the festive season are jointly made by seniors from PCS’s Active Ageing Centres (AACs) and students with special needs from Connexions.
MP for Punggol GRC, Yeo Wan Ling, officiated the launch on Monday (24 November) at the RedMan by Phoon Huat in Northshore Plaza, Punggol. Phoon Huat is supporting the initiative by providing the baking studio space.
Dr Lim Hian Boon, CEO of PCS, said that around 10 seniors will participate in the baking sessions and help guide youths with special needs. Although the micro-job income is modest, it allows seniors and youths to spend time meaningfully. “We hope the public will recognise the value of this programme and support their products with love.”
AAC member Ho Yueh Ling, 62, who is part of the programme, felt that Zheng Yao and the other youths with special needs are hardworking and serious. She lets them try the tasks themselves while she supports them from the side. She said, “Being able to encourage and help these young people is very meaningful to me.”
PCS will be at the RedMan store at The Star Vista on the weekends of 13–14 December and 20–21 December to promote the products. Those interested may pre-order online.
