Special Education School

Develop and Cultivate Meaningful Activities for Our Senior

Grace Orchard School (GOS) caters to students aged 7 – 18 years old who have been diagnosed with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) as well as those with Mild Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The school is specifically for students ranging from 7-18 years old who have Intellectual Quotient (IQ) which falls within the range of 50-70.

Our mission is to Shape Special Lives for Significance, desiring for our students to be Rooted in Values, Prepared for Life, and Empowered to Make a Difference. We believe that all of our students are God’s Masterpieces created for good works.

Today, the school has a team of about 130 teaching and non-teaching staff working together to provide learning opportunities for some 450 students. 

History

In January 2002, GOS started as an initiative of two churches, namely, True Grace Presbyterian Church and Providence Presbyterian Church. It was located at a former primary school campus along Boon Lay Avenue and had about 50 students and 7 teachers.  In 2009, the school moved to a purpose-built school building at Jurong West St 52.

In 2021, to cater to an increase in demand for school places and provide new and improved facilities for students, the school started working with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to develop a new school campus. To facilitate these expansion plans, the school is currently operating at a holding site in 170 West Coast Road.

Vocational Education (retail, environmental maintenance, horticulture, food preparation, housekeeping, baking)
In addition, the school also adopts a holistic approach to address the needs and aspirations of the students. It focuses on the academic and developmental growth and achievement of the students, and also supports their behaviour, social and emotional needs. Some of the key initiatives include School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support, Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Programme and Milestones Programmes.
