The social service organization Presbyterian Community Social Services has opened a new community space in Holland Village to help persons with special needs develop independent living skills and better integrate into society. At the same time, the space serves as a venue for seniors to engage in community activities and exercise.

During the opening ceremony on Tuesday (Feb 11), Kok Hei Mun, Chairman of Presbyterian Community Social Services, announced that the organization’s English name would be changed from Presbyterian Community Social Services to Presbyterian Community Social Services to better reflect the range of services it provides to the community. The Chinese name will remain unchanged.

Executive Director Lim Hian Boon stated in an interview that the center hopes to increase the number of students with special needs to 60 by the end of the year … and this number is expected to grow. “We hope to provide a space for piloting new programs, which can later be implemented in Active Ageing Centers.”

In his speech, Guest-of-Honor President Tharman Shanmugaratnam commended Presbyterian Community Social Services for its dedication to serving all individuals, regardless of race or religion. “Because you believe that we should build an inclusive and fair society. It is precisely this belief in the potential of every individual that has shaped Singapore into what it is today, and it is also the direction in which we continue to strive for improvement.”
