Sarah AAC Holds Talk to Teach Seniors How to Spot Deepfake Videos (Lianhe Zaobao, 28 April 2025)
PCS Sarah AAC organised a talk to help seniors learn how to detect common flaws in deepfake videos. Through case analysis and interactive activities, participants were taught to look out for signs such as whether lip movements matched the audio, whether body language appeared natural, whether the background was clear, or if there were unnatural distortions or shakiness.
Several elderly participants interviewed after the session were able to list some of these “spot-the-fake” tricks. Mr. Wang, 70, said: “You have to look at their movements, eyes, the angle of the mouth, and their pattern (behaviour).” Ms. Lian, 80, added that when she sees strange or unnatural movements in a video, she feels uneasy and reminds herself to stay alert.
Yeo Ruoshi further explained that unnatural body swaying while speaking, blurry or mismatched backgrounds, and inconsistencies between a person’s movements and their surroundings are common giveaways. She stressed: “Basically, if something looks unnatural to you, you should already have doubts.”
