庆祝双亲节 三代同堂义工助力长者众乐乐 (联合早报 – 2024年5月25日)

“Celebrating the 3rd Generation Double Day with volunteers helping the elderly” (Lianhe Zaobao – May 25 2024)

Friends of the Third Age held a special event on Saturday (May 25) at Block 5, Haig Road. The event hosted red envelope folding, colourful water bead bottle making and other activities. Colorful sand table painting and other activities encouraged the elderly to engage creatively and have fun with their children and grandchildren.

The “hong bao” event is one of the main activities of the celebration. Residents joined hands to fold 2,640 hong baos into square, sticking different colours of “blessings” on the front of the square, and then pieced together each square to create the largest “blessing” in Singapore, in order to wish the country “blessings” under the leadership of the new Prime Minister (PM).

The giant blessing character is 6.5 m wide and 2.7 m high, making it the largest “blessing” word in Singapore made from red packets.

Friends of the Third Age is a partnership between the Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Community Services. It was officially established in 2009 as a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO), recognised by South East Community Development Council. Since April 2008, Friends of the Year of the Pine have been providing quality and efficient services to senior citizens, including talks and workshops.
