About Us > History

The setting up of Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) was first initiated more than 40 years ago by the Presbyterian Church in Singapore. PCS began in 1974 with the establishment of Heng Teck Centre – its first – with play nursery and Kindergarten classes. It later catered to outreach projects such as tuition for youth and drop-in centre for old folks fellowship. In the early work, PCS was supported by Presbyterian churches:-

  • Chen Li Presbyterian Church
  • Glory Presbyterian Church
  • Jubilee Presbyterian Church
  • Orchard Road Presbyterian Church
  • Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church
  • True Way Presbyterian Church

Trinity Theological College also provided invaluable support and encouragement. PCS, evolved from its previous name of Presbyterian Urban-Industrial Mission, the acronym of which was PRISM, symbolizing our technological or scientific-industrial world with the light of Jesus Christ radiating through Christian in the many hues of the rainbow. It was a call to use all of His gifts for the service and loving care of all men. That call exhorted by the early founding fathers still stands today.

PCS is registered as a charitable body under the Charities Act (Cap. 37. 2997 Rev Ed.)(“Charities Act”) and a Full Member of the National Council of Social Service since 1985.
